Environmental Project Experience

 

  • Environmental Compliance Review / Financial Institution / Troy, Farmington Hills, Southfield and Lansing, Michigan.  Completed comprehensive regulatory (federal, state and local) environmental compliance evaluations pertaining to emergency backup generator emissions, above ground and under ground storage tanks, chemicals stored and used, waste handling, and storm water.   Prepared SPCC/PIP plans, and EPCRA / TRI reporting forms.
  • Environmental Compliance Audit and Air Permitting Assistance / Auto Parts Manufacturer / Chestefield, Michigan.  Performed a facility wide regulatory (federal, state and local) environmental compliance audit pertaining to emissions, chemicals stored and used, waste handling, and storm water.   Prepared SPCC and PIP plans, and EPCRA / TRI reporting forms.
  • Air Permitting – Permits to Discharge Treated or Untreated Air / Various Locations in Michigan.   Coordinated with the MDEQ, modeled remediation systems for quality of treated air prior to proposed discharge, and prepared “Permit to Install” and other applications for discharge of treated or untreated air.

  • Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments / Various Clients / Various Locations in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.  Completed hundreds of Phase I and II environmental site assessments for commercial and industrial properties during property transactions  for various client types, including, but not limited to, lenders, attorney-represented industry, and developers.
  • Baseline Environmental Site Assessments / Various Clients / Various Locations in Michigan.  Successfully completed numerous Baseline environmental site assessments for various commercial and industrial properties with confirmed contamination to identify or distinguish the environmental impact prior to the sale/purchase/occupancy to limit liability for environmental remediation.
  • Conceptual Remedial Cost Estimates / Financial Institution / Various locations in Michigan. Estimated conceptual remediation costs to mitigate potential environmental concerns to include soil and/or groundwater impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons, PCBs, etc. at a number of industrial properties.
  • Leaking Under Ground Storage Tank (LUST) Investigation and Site Characterization / Major Petroleum Retails throughout Michigan.  Site characterization, UST removal and submittal of required forms to MDEQ for L/UST management/investigations, prepare feasibility and Corrective Action Plans, contract specifications, subcontractor selection and oversee construction.
  • Remedial Insvetigations and Feasibility Evaluations / various clients / various Sites in Pennsylvania and Michigan / Reviewed and condcted remedial investigations and feasibility evaluations for several Superfund sites and other impacted sites involving bioremediation, air sparging, solidification, oxidation and vapor extraction systems involving; PCB’s,  chlorinated solvents, heavy metals, and/or petroleum hydrocarbons.
  • Remediation System Design - Multi-Phase Extraction (MPE) System / petroleum Retailer / Various Sites in Michigan.  Evaluated subsurface information and hydrogeological characteristics to design and engineer MPE remediation systems to extract non-aquesous phase liquids and treat impacted soil and groundwater.
  • Remediation System Design - Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) System and Air Sparging (AS) / Major Petroleum Refiner/Distributor / Various Sites in Michigan.  Designed, engineered and implemented SVE/AS remediation systems to remediate petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil and groundwater.
  • Remediation System Design - Pump & Treat System / Major Petroleum Refiner/Distributor / Various Sites in Michigan.  Analyzed subsurface information and hydrogeological data to design and engineer a pump and treat system to treat impacted groundwater.
  • Remediation System - operationand maintenance - Extraction of Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids and Impacted Groundwater / Public Gas Works Co. / Philadelphia, PA.   Managed periodic investigation and extraction of petroleum impacted groundwater and free product to protect surface waters in the adjacent river. 
  • NPDES Stormwater Discharge and Municipal Sanitary Sewer Discharge Permitting / Various Petroleum Refiners/Distributors / Various Locations in Michigan.   Evaluated and analyzed analytical and other data, negotiated with municipalities and/or the MDEQ, modeled remediation systems for quality of treated waste water prior to proposed discharge, and drafted permit applications for waste water discharge.

     

     

     

Engineering Project Experience
  • Property Condition Assessment (PCA) / Hospitals and Nursing Homes, Various Locations in Michigan. Evaluated all components of the properties including landscaping, parking lots, building/s (structural, mechanical/ HVAC, electrical, etc.) to provide detailed estimates of immediate repair costs.  Also provided potential upgrading requirements to achieve energy efficiency and conservation as well as ADA complaince.
    • Property Condition Assessments (PCAs) / Major Auto Manufacturer / Various locations in Michigan and Ohio.  Completed property condition assessment for a number of Auto Dealerships and provide detailed estimates of immediate and long term repair/maintenance costs. Engineering Design / General Motors / Kibbe & Associates / Defiance, OH.  Storm sewer design for a storm sewer expansion project at General Motors Power Train Plant in Defiance, Ohio. 

    • Engineering Design, Various Developments, MI. Completed feasibility studies, civil/site plans per vari

      -ous municipal requirements. 
    • Engineering - Ackerman & Ackerman, P.C. / RC Associates / Auburn Bean & Grain Company / Auburn, MI.  Geotechnical evaluation and expert testimony regarding subsurface conditions, feasible foundation system(s) for placement of pelletized beet pulp silos along the Saginaw River in the 100-year flood plain/ floodway in Saginaw, Michigan. 
    • Pavement Condition Evaluation (PCI)  / a Major Retailer’s Warehouse  / Coldwater, MI. Completed evaluation of an existing parking lot with an area of approximately 2,000,000 square feet and provided 5-year maintenance plan with first year repairs of approximately $4,000,000.  Also provided pavement repair and design recommendation per the retailer’s new pavement requirements.
    • Floor Slab Failure Investigation / a Major Retailer, Canton, MI.  Conducted a floor slab failure investigation and provided probable causes of failure and repair options.
    • Engineering Evaluation / A major Food Distributor., Brighton, Michigan. Provided preliminary and comprehensive geotechnical engineering services to locate a feasible site for a food distribution center.  
    • Engineering Evaluation / Proposed Home Improvement Retailer, Monroe Michigan.  Provided preliminary geotechnical engineering services for a proposed store.

     

    • Engineering Evaluation / Bank Branches, Bloomfield Township, Grosse Point, Rochester Hills, Westland, Waterford Township, Royal Oak and Livonia,  Michigan.  Provided geotechnical engineering services.

     

    • Engineering Evaluation / Various Clients & Various Locations, MI and OH.  Geotechnical evaluations for over 50 communication and broadcast towers located across Michigan and Ohio.  Provided foundation recommendations, allowable design soil parameters and construction considerations based on the subsurface soil and groundwater conditions encountered at each site.

     

    • City of Bay City / Bay Aggregate / Bay City, MI.  Geotechnical evaluation for Bay Aggregate Relocation project.  The evaluation included slope stability analyses of sea walls using SLOPE/W to determine factors of safety for failures by simulating heavy aggregate piles placed at various distances from the sea wall.

     

    • Construction Monitoring Services / Auto Parts Manufacturer's  Facilities at Monroe, Lansing and Romulus, Michigan.  QA/QC of construction materials including soils, concrete, asphalt and structural steel during the construction including earthwork, foundations, structural steel and pavement installation phases of the project.  The building sizes ranged from 150,000 square feet to 250,000 square feet.

     

    • Construction Monitoring Services / Food Distribution Ctr., Brighton, Michigan. Quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) of construction materials including soils, concrete, asphalt and structural steel during the construction including earthwork, foundations, structural steel and pavement installation phases of the project.

     

    • Energy / LEED Consulting Services / a Major Financial Institution / Detroit Metro Area, MI.  Evaluated potential to convert various existing buildings to LEED certifiable and Energystar compliant buildings.

     

    • Property Condition Assessment (PCA) / a Major Insurance Co.  / Grand Rapids, MI. Evaluated all components of the property including landscaping, parking lots, building/s (structural, mechanical/ HVAC, electrical, etc.) to provide detailed estimates of immediate repair costs  over the term of the loan for a multi-story hotel and condominum complex.
